Each machine has some sort of cam mounting facility because it requires a cam to zig-zag. No danger of loosing your zig-zag here. ?? Cam numbers are engraved in circles below; the long numbers in rectangles are the corresponding part numbers for the external cams. This changes built-in stitches producing straight stretch stitch, ric-rac zig-zag, waffle stitch and mock overlock. This means that although you only have 3 built-in cams, you get in fact 8 stitches, counting straight stitch and zig-zag individually. (Kenmore model 158.18033 has 5 built-in cams producing 12 stitches in total.). So they need a separate single layer cam for plain zig-zag and another double layer cam for zig-zag with stretch, for example. But on the Kenmore it will produce two stitches: with and without the stretch. In particular, complex stitches that make the swan or the Christmas tree will not generate anything of interest without their reverse motion disks. But you won’t know unless you try it! An example of an alternative alignment is cams 33 and 35: Since the reverse motion cam from cam 33 is the same as cam 20, you can use cam 33 to get the waffle and overlock stitch selected with the pattern knob. For example, cam 35 with stitched zig-zag built-in pattern produces the feather stitch, while the “standard” cam 20 makes the waffle.? More specifically, it has to fit into one of my standard plastic cases which in turn fits into the cut-out in my table. Although the Kenmore is a built-in model, it does not fit into my cases, so I had to treat it as stand-alone. It is only last week that I finally adapted a case for it. And a very useful machine overall, with a large work area and a good harp space. This is a very common setup, and totally makes sense here: on all three machines, the reverse stitch length is roughly equal the forward stitch length but cannot be regulated separately. The reverse is only meant for brief backtucking.
The foot also has a groove on the underside that allows stitches to feed more smoothly under the foot, also for adding trim More Use with medium weight fabrics. This foot is equipped with a pin which acts in a similar manner as the stitch finger on an overlocker More The 3 hole foot can be adjustable where the thread slides under the guide bars, but this 5 hole version and 7 hole versions need threading through set holes. Your cord or decorative thread or thin ribbons are passed through the guide or hole as you sew it in place More Its double sided so you can stitch both right and left sides makes working with fabric easy More. But they have variable stretch stitch, that is the extent of the reverse motion in back-and-forth stitch can be regulated. And boy, did they come with some fancy cams!? But the good news is that it can be quite easily converted to low shank which I did and described in a separate post. Of course we all know about free hand embroidery where you remove the foot or use a hopping or darning foot, drop or cover the feed dogs and move the fabric manually. The two knobs at either end of the slot can be moved and fixed in place setting the minimum and the maximum zig-zag width. It also allows to lock the machine to straight stitch. Every machine can do it, right. The fact that lateral motion is possible, will often veer the needle off the straight and narrow due to the vibrations during sewing. To prevent it, zig-zag machines often have a locking mechanism of some kind. It is of course possible that something is mal-adjusted in my machine and that in fact it should lock. I call them “the drunken sailor”. It would be worth while to come up with some contraption to clamp the zig-zag width knob, as this would solve the problem. The 800 series are excellent otherwise! But some machines come with a special geared bobbin cover plate to which you can clip a buttonholer or a monogrammer that would do wonders for you, provided you’ve got the templates.
Sadly, every year we lose another repair shop in the San Francisco Bay Area. There is a strange “good old boys” mentally about sharing the repair knowledge and I find myself traveling farther and farther searching for any of the old guard to glean and preserved their knowledge that could only come from years of experience. Since stumbling onto your blog (2 days ago) I have learned more than I have in the last 5 years. Some of the new information was due to geographical differences but most was from your love of the older machines. Thank you so much for your passion. I don’t actually discriminate machines based on their age ?? but only based on their abilities. And unfortunately most post-1975 machines fall so very short here. For many others it might have simply been a profession that paid the bills rather than a hobby as well. And now they are retired and have better things to do. As for me, I started repairing my machines out of necessity and quickly discovered that I enjoy playing with bolts and gears as much as I enjoy playing with textiles, so I started to fix and modify my machines to fit my sewing needs, and never looked back. I learned so much from others, and I’m glad to return the favour. ?? Enjoy your sewing! I got into sewing after my daughter was given a plastic John Lewis (Janome) machine for Christmas. I bought a set of those Chinese presser feet and have not looked back. But now I have mother in laws 413. Plastic Grear broke after 4 hrs of my use, now fixed, a 401g which is running beautifully now, a 99K wow what a revelation, it kind of talks to me ” leave it to me I know what I’m doing” sewed by first button holes on it with the older style singer button holer with no cams, two practice pieces and bingo lovely button holes. A 201 to rewite and I think a 15K yet to be looked at, which I got with the 401.
I like that stretch stitch can be disabled for double layer cams and enabled for the built-in ones. I value the proper straight stitch and stable zig-zag width. You can’t see it in the photos because I glued it back on in order to remember how it was supposed to fit. But this is the one part made of plastic, and of course that’s the one to go. There’s a similar machine on eBay at the moment, and look how they fixed it: They are still quite popular with the young generation, it seems! And I can see why. ?? It actually works better than a regular buttonholer attachment, so it’s not just a commercial gimmick, although that too, no doubt. ?? I have only tried it once, and I liked it. I think 50% forward on the cam would be standing still. Not sure!! So I figured, just try it out on each design and forget about general rules. ?? If you are still wanting a set of monogram templates I have a full set from A-Z that I am willing to sell. Please contact me by email. I have not tried combining the cams with the built in stitches and will have a blast finding a new favorite combination on my 158.1756. When I use the hemmer feet, I find it useful to move the needle position. How I do that is by setting the machine up for straight stitch with no cams in it, then turn the stitch selector to cam and change the stitch width. This will only give you from center to left needle positions, but that’s all I need for use with the hemmer foot. I have not sewed a long swatch to see if the stitch vibrates into a wobble, but I know it stays during shirt tail hemming. Peace, Franny I’ll have to try it out! ?? Selling feature then was the dial up button holes, this was brilliant then and still haven’t heard of another machine that does this, Why not? I have seen Kenmores that look a bit similar to mine. Mine is about a 1980s model. I’m still searching for a service manual. The Maker Movement has brought many new sewers to the craft but hasn’t brought many of the tinkers from their sheds.
I'd have bought it too, even though I already have 3 featherweights. Jammy so and so Suzie If she works, and I'm sure a bit of TLC will get her going, you have a real bargain. Also Bernina 1150 overlocker and Elna 444 Coverstitcher.. I've had to cool it on the mad machine hunt. I'd still love a Necchi Julia, and maybe an Elna Supermatic.I think my favourite is my Singer 500a I really enjoy using it is very comfortable and capable, it tends to be my go to machine as its always set up as its in the cabinet it came in. I'd love to know what its doing in the UK in a cabinet. I also really like my Pfaff 30, its fussy about set up but once its set its a quiet unfussy stitcher and is shinier than Darth Vader's helmet. The case also appears to have got quite wet at some stage and the extension table is corroded and the stitching on the case has gone so that all needs some love too. I do really like the look of it, its unusual. Timing shouldn't be impossible, but I'm not sure how to refinishing extention tables. I'm still dithering with my touch ups on my green Phoenix. I'm just not even too sure where to start on timing. There might be traces of something that has slipped out of place at some point. For an amateur it helps a lot to have a few guide lines on the particular model. I'm using my trusty old Singer 99k (circa 1937), as I'm feeling lazy and want a bit of electricity. It's another one I've had rewired with a clamshell foot control and nice fresh cable. It does a great job on jeans, even over the thick seams (with a bit of help from levellers under the presser foot and a bit of handwheel turning). Right, time to fire it up. Suzie Just wish I could remember to keep my hand away from the light when I'm lifting the presser foot. Got a lovely burn on my thumb now. The 99k performed well on the stretch and the thick rigid denim, but I'm going to have to look at the stop motion screw at some point.
The needle bar was still active while I was refilling the bobbin, despite it being disengaged. Not a huge problem, but it's nicer if the needle isn't going up and down when you've asked it not to. Suzie Have you had the hand wheel off. It often does the trick; cleaning, a bit of polishing if there's, rust, dried up oil or grime, and maybe something with teflon to make it extra smooth. The tiny oil point on top, just left of the hand wheel usually doesn't reach all the way out to the stop motion screw. If you tilt the machine towards the right (have a book or something under the left side of the machine), oil and turn the hand wheel with the stop motion screw both tightened and and in free it might get the job done. That being said you need to consider what you want to use your sewing machine for and how many stitches you will really need to use. If not, were you trying make a darning stitch. Perhaps with the foot raised. Keep in mind that raising the foot loosens the upper thread tension.Needle goes down, but bobbin thread doesn't catch.Ifthis all checks out ok, take the bobbin case out of the machine. There are twoears on either side of the bobbin case- turn the left one to the left and theright one to the right. Remove the silver ring, and inspect the piece of metalthat the ring came off of (looks like a circle with the top cut off). You haveto locate the hook which is the piece that looks like a half moon inside thebig round metal piece. Locate the tip of it, turn the hand wheel toward youuntil the needle is in the lowest position, at this point the tip of the hookshould be flush with top of the left side of the cut off circle. If this is notso, your machine needs to be re-timed. If that is the case, I would need to seea picture of the bottom of the machine so that I am able to determine whatneeds adjusting. Make sure you're turning the hand wheel in the proper direction-- the proper direction isthe one that will feed fabric forward under the presser foot. Make sure the needle is facing in the correct direction -- stitches don't form,or skip badly when the needle is turned around. Hang on to the end of the upper thread, and use the hand wheel to drop theneedle.Pull on the endof the needle thread and a loop of bobbin thread should come up. Hold BOTH threads behind the presser foot when starting a seam to preventthread jams. Hope this will help you. Good Luck.Could you please help. Thanks First, be sure the bobbin is in the bobbin case correctly. There is usually a line diagram showing the correct placement or you can check the owner's manual. Second, make sure your needle is inserted correctly. If it is not completely set in the housing, this can prevent the bobbin thread from being caught by the hook. The groove in the needle should be ffacing toward you to assure that the thread interacts with the hook.
You have to locate the hook whichis the piece that looks like a half moon inside the big round metal piece.Locate the tip of it, turn the hand wheel toward you until the needle is in thelowest position, at this point the tip of the hook should be flush with top ofthe left side of the cut off circle. If so then you've mis-threadedthe top, probably haven't raised the presser foot when threading so you can getthe upper thread into the tension. You need to thread the upper part with thepresser foot up. (You can put it down to thread the needle.) Not picking up thread can be several issues, like bobbin is miswound, bobbincase isn't snapped in properly, you're using the wrong type bobbin, machine isout of time, needle is bent or burred, machine is dirty and in need of dustbunny eviction and a little oil but most of the time the issue is once againmisthreading: sewing machine needles have a front and a back and they have tobe placed in the needle holder correctly. In that case your manual is needed, take all the thread offthe machine (yes, spool off the spool pin, bobbin out of the bobbin case), pullthe needle plate and clean your machine thoroughly, using brush and vacuum (notcompressed air) and oiling per the instruction manual. Hang on to theneedle thread when you fetch up the bobbin thread. Each and every seam you start is going to be done this way: 1) Pull the tail of the top and bobbin thread behind the presser foot 2) Put the work under the needle and use the hand wheel to lower the needleinto the work 3) Drop the presser foot 4) Holding the thread tails behind the foot, take a couple of stitches. 5) Drop the thread tails and sew normally. Hope this will help you. Good Luck.Sounds more like an upper or needle thread tension problem than a lower or bobbin thread tension problem. Your trouble could also be the thread take-up lever was missed when threading the machine. Trace the thread path to make sure the threading is correct. Is this an embroidery machine.
I don't know what kind of machine you have so I can't tell you just where to set the timing, but you'll find the point in the lower section of the machine, there will generally be a screw or two that, being loosened, will allow the lower section of the machine (where the bobbin is) to turn while the upper section stays still. You want to watch the needle and the tying mechanism: as the needle starts to come up the top thread becomes slack and the hook on the shuttle carrier (the piece that either turns back and forth or goes round and round, down below) catches the slack top thread and pulls it around the shuttle. If the hook is too early in its motion it can't catch the top thread, if it's late then the top thread is gone before the shuttle can catch it. Timing the machine is simply a matter of determining if the hook is early in trying to catch the top thread or late. Turn the machine by the handwheel, watch the interaction of the needle and hook, adjust the timing if necessary and try it again. If you don't see where to time the machine the next best thing is to take it to someone who knows, pay them, and watch where they're making the adjustment. Good luck with it, lpThe floor suction, controlled by the gray switch on the back, is still great. When you push the red button on the front, the beads in the canister used to spin but now it doe nothing. Any ideas how I can fix it? It's like a pulse noise and works intermittently. Third, be certain the upper threading is correct.passing through all thread guides and correctly through tension and take up lever. Finally, make sure the bobbin case is free of lint. The machine brush that came with the machine will clean this area well. I hope one of these suggestions helps you solve your problem. If so, please come back to Fixya and rate my advice! How do you adjust the bottom thread to make it equal to the top? Sometimes its called a knob or a button or found on your Touch Screen if you have a computerized machine. Refer to your manual if you can't find it. Either your needle thread is too tight or your bobbin thread is too loose. First check that your bobbin thread hasn't slipped out of its tension spring in the bobbin case. If the bobbin thread is correctly threaded through the tension spring, then decrease your needle tension by 1 number. Test by stitching several inches on your small quilt sandwich. Keep decreasing the tension until no needle thread is visible on the quilt top. If sewing machine tension problems occur during the middle of a quilting session, again, first refer to the checklist above. Once you're satisfied that your sewing machine is threaded properly and your needle is not the culprit, then adjust the tension as outlined above. If you have just started testing your quilting thread choices and you are using different threads for the needle and bobbin, you will in all probability make adjustments to your tension. Make a small quilt sandwich from the materials used in your quilt to make this sandwich. It doesn't have to be pretty or even pin basted. It should be just big enough to test some of the stitching you plan to do on your quilt.Probably a tension problem, but I don't have a manual and I've tried every setting and nothing seems to work. If it's not tying and you're sure it's threaded correctly then it's out of time. Timing a sewing machine is not difficult, but the point where you adjust the timing is often not obvious.

closed transition manual transfer switch
The switch will operate in a make-before-break mode provided both sources are acceptable and synchronized. Typical parameters determining synchronization are: voltage difference less than 5%, frequency difference less than 0.2 Hz, and maximum phase angle between the sources of 5 degrees. This means the engine driving the generator supplying one of the sources generally must be controlled by an isochronous governor. If either source is not present or not acceptable (such as when normal power fails) the switch must operate in a break-before-make mode (standard open transition operation) to ensure no backfeeding occurs. This requires getting approval from the local utility company.A CTTS is not a substitute for a UPS (uninterruptible power supply); a UPS has a built-in stored energy that provides power for a prescribed period of time in the event of a power failure.Because there are no mechanical moving parts, the transfer can be completed rapidly, perhaps within a quarter-cycle of the power frequency.Different models are available, with both manual and automatic transfer. Often small transfer switch systems use circuit breakers with an external operating linkage as the switching mechanism. The linkage operates two circuit breakers in tandem, closing one while opening the other. Manufacturers of transfer switches can provide installation guides to select the size of switch and provide recommended installation procedures. By using this site, you agree to the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy. While open transition and delayed transition switches offer reliable performance, they also interrupt power flow to loads during each transfer. Alternatively, Closed Transition Transfer Switches (CTTS) transfer loads without interrupting power when both power sources are available and each presents acceptable characteristics. While open transition and delayed transition switches offer reliable performance, they also interrupt power flow to loads during each transfer.

Some transfer switches are manual, in that an operator effects the transfer by throwing a switch, while others are automatic and trigger when they sense one of the sources has lost or gained power. The transfer switch isolates the backup generator from the electric utility when the generator is on and providing temporary power. The control capability of a transfer switch may be manual only, or a combination of automatic and manual. The switch transition mode (see below) of a transfer switch may be Open Transition (OT) (the usual type), or Closed Transition (CT)). Once the ATS sees that the generator is ready to provide electric power, the ATS breaks the home's connection to the electric utility and connects the generator to the home's main electrical panel. The generator supplies power to the home's electric load, but is not connected to the electric utility lines. It is necessary to isolate the generator from the distribution system to protect the generator from overload in powering loads in the house and for safety, as utility workers expect the lines to be dead. Some transfer switches allow for load shedding or prioritization of optional circuits, such as heating and cooling equipment. More complex emergency switchgear used in large backup generator installations permits soft loading, allowing load to be smoothly transferred from the utility to the synchronized generators, and back; such installations are useful for reducing peak load demand from a utility.A break-before-make transfer switch breaks contact with one source of power before it makes contact with another. One example is an open transition automatic transfer switch (ATS). During the split second of the power transfer the flow of electricity is interrupted. There are also operational conditions where it may be desirable to transfer loads with zero interruption of power when conditions permit. For these applications, closed transition transfer switches can be provided.
It is this current surge that can trip breakers or, in more extreme cases, damage equipment. Breakers, transfer switches, and cable must be sized accordingly. IEEE 1547 allows generator sets or systems of paralleled generator sets between 1.5 and 10 MVA to be up to 10 deg out of phase with the utility when closing to the grid, with higher phase difference limits for smaller systems. For other equipment the answer depends on how much surge current the system can handle without tripping breakers or damaging equipment. For high reliability, one must consider the magnitude of current that can flow between the sources at the instant of transfer. Surge current can be modeled as: In many applications where a single standby generator set is backing up the utility, the impedance at the instant of closure will be dominated by the subtransient reactance of the alternator. However, a thorough analysis will include all the sources of impedance in the calculation. Note that in applications with paralleled generators, one must account for the contribution to the current from all the generator sets. This can be done by calculating an equivalent subtransient reactance for the paralleled generators according to the following equation: With this assumption, surge current can be modeled as: Figure 1 is a representation of two voltage sine waves that are 10 deg out-of-phase and the difference between the two waveforms at each point in the cycle. The dashed line represents the instantaneous voltage difference between the two sources. This line is also a sine wave at the same frequency as the two sources. The maximum voltage on this line is the worst-case scenario for the differential voltage at the instant the two sources are paralleled. The worst-case voltage in this case is 0.17 per unit (pu). In the data sheet in Figure 2, we see that the alternator has a subtransient reactance of 0.144 pu based on an alternator kVA rating of 3660 kVA.
Alternatively, Closed Transition Transfer Switches (CTTS) transfer loads without interrupting power when both power sources are available and each presents acceptable characteristics. This term reflects the sequence of switching mechanism operations, where the contacts for the original source are opened before the contacts for the alternate source are closed. The sequence is similar to open transition switching; however, the duration of the power interruption is extended to allow residual voltages to decay and motors to slow. This avoids the occurrence of large inrush currents when the switch closes on the alternate source. This results in momentary source paralleling that provides continuous power, avoiding momentary power interruption to sensitive loads. Closed transition switching requires care to avoid extended interconnection of the sources, and should never be used without consulting utility officials. In this mode, however, the sources can be paralleled for extended periods. This highly advanced sequenced is used to decrease loading on the original source while increasing loading on the alternate source. Used only in highly specialized applications, soft-load Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS)’ can be used to avoid both power interruptions and rapid changes in power conditions. Unlike the other modes that are illustrated using voltage, soft-load is best understood by observing temporal changes in power. Click Here The benefits are that the emergency power system can be tested without interrupting power to loads and power can be retransferred to the utility after a failure without interrupting power to loads. However, there are risks associated with closed transition transfer switches as two live sources are connected together. The difference in voltage can be caused by several factors: This current is limited only by the impedance of the sources and the current-carrying capacity of the cable or bus connecting them.
1 Hz has been used effectively. Many synchronizing systems also include a voltage matching function, in which the generator sets will adjust the voltage regulator to drive the generator voltage level to match the utility voltage level. The voltage matching function is important in applications where the voltage on the utility transformer varies with load. Note that the utility waveform is constant and the synchronizer drives the generator set waveform in to sync with the utility. The voltage matching function forces the generator voltage to be at the same level as the utility voltage. Load changes on a system bus cause a sudden change in phase angle difference as frequency surges or sags in response to the load transient. This can cause the two sources to momentarily be out of sync until the synchronizer forces them back into synchronization. This is why for systems with multiple closed transition transfer switches, best practice is to allow only one switch to transfer at a time. With an active-phase lock-loop synchronizer, the time to synchronize is relatively short and reliable, so timing between switch operations need not be long. For this reason the possibility of load transients at the moment of transfer should be minimized. For systems with multiple transfer switches, best practice is to allow only one switch to transfer at a time. This can best be achieved either by staggering transfer time delays or by using the transfer and retransfer inhibit functions. When transferring loads with closed transition transfer switches, only one transfer switch should be allowed to transfer at any given time. All switches initially are inhibited from transferring and the master releases the inhibit on one switch at a time. For example, consider the system in Figure 4 consisting of two closed transition transfer switches. The normally closed aux contact from the normal side of the automatic transfer switch (ATS) 1 is wired into the retransfer inhibit input ATS 2.
When adding per-unit quantities, the per-unit values for the alternators and transformer must be based on the same base kVA rating. Circuit breakers typically have their instantaneous trip current set to 7 to 10 times the long time-trip setting. The surge will last only for one or two cycles, so as long as the level of surge current is not in the instantaneous trip range of the breaker, the breaker will not trip. Keep in mind that if the breaker is a current-limiting breaker designed to trip in the first half cycle of a fault, this will have to be considered. This will not cause a problem for the switch or the breakers. However, if this load were being transferred by a 400-amp transfer switch protected by 400-amp breakers located lower in the system, there is now a chance that the current surge will trip one of the breakers. Equipment must be sized to handle the surge current. Where this is not practical, open transition switches should be used. Loads that cannot tolerate a momentary interruption in service should be fed by an uninterruptible power supply (UPS). Transfer switches use a sync check function for initiating closure to the oncoming source when the two sources are in phase. There are two basic algorithms used by sync check systems: a permissive window algorithm and a predictive algorithm. When the three parameters are within some predefined limits, the sources are said to be within a “permissive window.” When the sources have been in the permissive window for some preset period of time, the controller closes to the oncoming source. The required time in the permissive window is typically set to 0.1 to 0.2 seconds for passive synchronizing systems and 0.5 seconds for active synchronizing systems. Generally speaking, the permissive window algorithm is more robust because the predictive algorithm is susceptible to transients on the voltage sources, which could skew the calculation of the optimum phase angle. A slip frequency of 0.
It can be an issue in applications where a residual voltage is briefly maintained at the load due to the generator effect created by a rotating motor or by the stored energy released from a transformer’s windings or core. Operation is independent of electrical synchronization between both sources of power. A transfer between power sources can be initiated automatically or manually. Disadvantages Unless some type of stored energy system, such as an uninterruptible power supply (UPS), is located downstream of the transfer switch, loads will experience a brief interruption in power during the transition delay period. In-phase transitions are typically completed in 150 milliseconds or less to ensure that inrush current is equal to or less than the normal starting current of the inductive load(s). If synchronization doesn’t occur within that time span, some transfer switches have the ability to default automatically to a delayed transition that serves as a failsafe. Advantages The rapid transfer time means that a transfer is accomplished without an appreciable power interruption to the load, provided that the system is properly adjusted Disadvantages In-phase transitions must be executed by an automatic controller. Manual operation is not possible as microprocessor logic is needed to manage source synchronization. If both sources of power are available but unable to meet pre-set synchronization criteria, and the transfer switch isn’t capable of defaulting to a delayed transition, a transfer will not occur. As there’s no gap between disconnection and connection, downstream loads receive continuous power throughout the transfer process. Switches configured for closed transitions usually transfer power automatically as soon as both power sources are closely synchronized in phase, voltage, and frequency.
The overlap period during which both sources are simultaneously connected, or “paralleled”, usually lasts no more than 100 milliseconds to comply with local utility interconnect requirements. Advantages Critical loads can continue to operate, without an interruption in power, during loaded generator engine testing Energy costs can be reduced through “peak shaving”, which is the ability to control usage from a utility during intervals of high demand in order to limit or reduce demand penalties during a given billing period Depending on the application, may eliminate the need for a UPS to be located downstream Disadvantages Transfer switches sophisticated enough to execute a closed transition tend to cost more. Some utilities require closed transitions to comply with interconnect requirements aimed at preserving power quality and protecting utility service personnel and equipment. In some cases, this can require the inclusion of protective relays in the electrical circuit Closed transitions must be executed by an automatic controller. Manual operation is not possible as microprocessor logic is needed to manage source synchronization Closed transitions can produce higher fault current, due to the 100 millisecond period when both power sources are paralleled. As a result, the consulting engineer may specify a higher withstand close-on rating (WCR), which could require oversizing the transfer switch amperage rating. It helps you to shape up your technical skills in your everyday life as an electrical engineer. More Information Edvard Csanyi Electrical engineer, programmer and founder of EEP. Any diagram illustration will be much appreciated or video. Thanks! Reply Vladimir Monev Feb 17, 2017 Is there any transfer swich for open transition switching like (I-0-II),but when you are in the 0-transition there is a connection between the load and “0” and it can serve as a grounding switch.
This will inhibit ATS 2 from beginning its retransfer sequence (including all time delays) until after ATS 1 has transferred back to the normal source. If the first switch fails to transfer or if the aux contact fails, the second switch will not transfer without manual intervention. For this reason it is preferable in some cases to use staggered time delays to prevent the switches from transferring at the same time. As these time delays are typically set on-site, it is important to clearly specify the time delays in commissioning documentation. It is not a requirement in the event of a utility failure, so there is no need to be concerned about not getting the emergency source online quickly enough. Many transfer switches have a “fail to disconnect” output which can be used for this. It is up to the installer to connect these devices to the shunt trip of the breaker. Some utilities require maximum parallel timer and lockout relays that are separate from the transfer switch control to implement this function. Tripping either the normal side or emergency side breaker will provide the same level of equipment protection, although many utilities require tripping the normal side breaker. This is a significant benefit in some applications; however, there are risks associated with closed transition transfer as two live sources are connected together. For loads that are not protected by a UPS, it is worth considering if the value of not having an interruption during a test or a retransfer to the utility justifies the risk of a closed transition transfer. Scroggins has been with Cummins for 18 years in a variety of engineering and product management roles. He has led product development and application work with transfer switches, switchgear controls, and networking and remote monitoring products, and has developed and conducted seminars and sales and service training internationally on several products.
Rich received his BSEE from the University of Minnesota and an MBA from the University of St. Thomas. A typical transfer sequence includes following steps: The normal power source fails. When power from the generator or the backup utility feed is stable and within prescribed voltage and frequency tolerances, the transfer switch shifts the electrical load to the emergency power source. Depending on the facility’s needs and preferences, that transfer either occurs automatically or is executed manually. When utility power is restored, the transfer switch returns the load from the emergency power source to the normal one. Again, this can happen automatically or manually, depending on the type of switch being used and its operation mode. ATS panel (photo credit: methodstatementhq.com) Two ways to transition loads Transfer switches can transition loads between normal and emergency power sources in two basic ways: Open or Closed The specific functions performed by a given load and the importance of those functions to safety or security play an important role in determining which kind of transition is required. That is, the transfer switch breaks its connection to one power source before making a connection to the other. For some period of time between disconnection and connection, neither the normal power source nor the emergency source is providing electricity to downstream loads. That delay typically lasts either a specific, pre-set amount of time or however long it takes the load voltage to drop below a prespecified level. Advantages Building a delay into the transition process can prevent higher than normal electrical current ( also known as “inrush current” ) from developing. Inrush current can occur when an inductive load is rapidly reconnected to a non-synchronized power source.
Reply mohsen Dec 19, 2015 hello please give me information about changeover switch (make before break motorize) in below circuit Q01 WHAT KINDE OF SWITCH IN YOUR PRODUCT. THANKS Reply Leon Venter Jun 04, 2015 Edvard, Well done on a clear article. With the increasing incidence of Load-Shedding occurring in many of the counties I work in, the question of Automatic-Change-Over from Supply Authority to Stand-By Generator is becoming normal practice. Regarding the question of “what is critical and non-critical” loads it depends on the consumers operation. Is it a Hospital with life-support then it would be important to have this equipment to be un-interrupted i.e. UPS, if not then the process must be changed over ASAP. If the consumer has critical materials in a process, say a glass-works or a plastics-works then the supply must be returned within a suitable time to prevent the product from solidifying in the moulds. Most of my experience with stand-by generators allows for a change-over ATS using contactors with a suitable mechanical and electrical interlocking. When there is load-shedding the generator is allowed to get up to voltage and the contactor for the generator comes in. (so the time lost is Generator start up time plus a few seconds. Once the supply comes back on the generator continues to feed the plant for a pre-determined time to ensure that the supply authority supply is stable then the question is how do you switch back to the supply authority. Most of the time there is a further Off sequence where the supply is disconnected from the generator, there is a time lag where any rotating equipment is allowed to wind down then the interlocked contactor system switches back to the main supply and the machine operators bring back the machinery to full operation.
With the advent of micro-processor change-over and the ability to monitor the supply and generator phase sequences there is a new generation of switches where the hand over is instantaneous and there is no loss of supply at this switch over sequence. Perfect synchronised hand over, no loss of supply and very little inrush current. Our breakthroughs in transfer switch technology enable us to offer one of the most comprehensive and advanced portfolios of transfer switch solutions in the world, from well-established technologies to the latest in digital innovation. With ABB, you can choose the functionality and features that are just right for your facility, knowing that you’ll get outstanding reliability, even in the most demanding conditions.By significantly reducing the number of connection points, ABB increases reliability and decreases the likelihood of downtime of your most critical loads and processes. In addition, we offer solutions with fast in-phase transition and closed transition to reduce outage time. Operators can measure and monitor a wide variety of parameters to stay proactive, save time, and reduce costs. Available safety features include mechanical isolation of unsynchronized power sources, manual emergency operation, and protection from current-carrying parts to reduce the risks for operator injury. Unmatched performance. Transfer switches allow the Emergency Power Supply (EPS) (i.e. genset) to assume the electrical load from the primary power source (i.e. utility) during a power outage. There are two types of transfer switches. ATS’s use undervoltage-sensing devices to monitor the primary source of power. The ATS: It is not necessary to use switches listed for emergency service to transfer loads not designated as emergency. ATS’s transfer load from one power source to another by opening and closing contacts that are connected to the primary power supply and the backup power source. Different configurations are available depending on the application including: Certain applications may use closed-transition or soft-load transition switching, which allows momentary paralleling of the generators with the utility. Closed transition switching is used in applications where the interruption of power even for a few milliseconds is not acceptable (e.g. hospital operating rooms).
However, this equipment should be approved by the local utility and the authority having jurisdiction (AHJ). The system shall also be designed so that, upon failure of one or more engine generator sets, the load is automatically reduced (shed), starting with the load of least priority so that the last load affected is the highest priority or emergency load. Setting time delays while staying within the required time required for power restoration by the Type of EPSS can also help generators to stabilize voltage and frequency. The primary purpose of a bypass-isolation switch is to allow safe access for inspecting, maintaining, or servicing the switch without interrupting power to critical loads. A short-circuit and selective coordination study would need to be performed by a qualified engineer to determine the maximum available short-circuit current at the service and all switchboards, panels, and transfer switches. Switching Control logic continuously Closed-Transition Transfer within 5 electrical degrees is Therefore, Plus, protective relaying may not be required under Failure to synchronize indication and extended parallel time Applications include older style variable frequency drives, rectifier banks, and load management applications. The bypass switch has dead front quick-make, quick-break operation for transferring of loads between live sources. That’s hopefully straightforward ( click here to read some background on ATS ), but from here we now have several options we unpack with our clients, based on the type of transfer switch and how their application can effect or better suit their site. We will relate these to a typical mains generator application, but they can be applied to switching between other power sources also.

Morse 1.0 out of 5 stars Weak design ——The handle and the locks on the basket broke on the first use. The water also splashes up out of the tub and gets on you. The handle has two plastic locks that snap into place, and the one side broke off just attaching the handle to the basket. The lid lock broke when unscrewing the lid. The clothes did not get clean either. Sorry, I hate writing bad reviews, but this product was not good for me.There is of course a learning curve. The instructions state to leave the clothing soak for five minutes, but I found that 5 minutes was not long enough to remove stains, food or underarm deoderant residue from the clothing. If I soak heavily stained items in warm to hot water for 30 to 60 minutes, the clothes come out clean.I only use warm to hot water, If you use cold water only, I would recommend soaking the clothing for at least an hour.Lastly, get an electric spin dryer, the lavario says to empty the bucket, put the clothing in the bottom and push down on the basket to drain water, no matter how hard you push, the clothing will still be soaking wet.

Saves time and the environment. We wanted it to be non-electric and hand-powered so it could be used anywhere - and - made in the USA. We tested all the popular portable washers sold online, all in the 60 to 100 dollar range, and we were surprised by what we found. None of them could properly wash even light articles like socks and underwear. Lavario was meticulously engineered for durability and performance. We are immensely proud of our washer. All in all, I am very happy with the Lavario Portable Clothes Washer. You will really like the Lavario for traveling in an RV as well. It's so much easier and less messy than that twirling hand crank unit others sell. I hope you consider the Lavario for your portable clothes washing needs. It is incredibly simple to operate. My wife and I were pleasantly surprised by how well it cleaned everything. I ended up washing our work gloves and gardening gloves in the Lavario as well. From start to finish, each “wash cycle” took us around 8 minutes and that includes soaking the clothes for 5 minutes.I see this as quite a pointless washing machine as it takes up loads of space because the handle can’t be removed and there is no way of spinning the clothes so everything is soaking and you have to wring it out by hand. Very disappointed.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again Basically, it enables you to do bigger hand-washing loads than you could do in the sink, but more easily and more effectively. I use it in the shower cubicle which is ideal for filling and emptying it. This combination is brilliant and easy on water, electricity and time. Very pleased with my purchases.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again However upon opening the package, the handle for the Lavario was broken in half. I like this washer because it will never break, its quiet, easy to use and works well. When I am not at work I’m either, at my cross fit gym, on a run, in a pool, doing yoga etc. I despise doing large loads of accumulated laundry, and then handwashing all my athletic things. I stumbled upon Lavario on Amazon, it is now my go to for all my work-out clothes, they come out really clean and fresh smelling. Lavario is so well-designed—different than all the other portable washers that I checked out. I’m buying another Lavario as a gift for my brother. It was packaged very well. I have mine in my walk-in shower; you can use your bathtub as well. The motion is straight up and down 10 times, let it soak for 10 minutes, then finish another 10 times up and down, then you undo the drain cap on the bottom, and allow the water to drain out; pick up the basket by the handles, set it on the shower floor on something clean, and allow it to drain out (I set mine on a clean kitchen garbage bag.it does have to sit and drain a few minutes. Then you re-do the process to rinse with clean water with the same action (You may prefer more than once, but I didn't need to because I used only a small amount of detergent. You can add bleach, but be very careful with your eyes and clothes, because it does splash a bit. I liked the Lavario because it is upright, and I'm short enough for this to work well for me as a regular washer, but they are small loads if you want to just use it for unmentionables, or just stinky socks, or baby clothes that you don't want to contaminate your regular clothes. After your clothes are rinsed and have drained enough, you can put them in another plastic wet clothes basket, and either put them to an electric clothes spinner to get the water out (I happen to have one that I used with that crank ball-like washer), or you can hand wring them and hang them up. The spinner is the best way to get the water out, but you CAN live without the spinner if you have to.

Arlene 5.0 out of 5 stars I found myself just buying more undergarments, so I could extend the time between schlepps to the laundromat. Now, I pop a week's handful of clothes in a 5-gallon bucket. Wash away and hang dry out on my porch. This washer makes me feel like a pioneer woman. My clothes are actually cleaner than when washed in machines. I save TONS of money. And unlike laundromat washers, clothes can actually soak--yes. What's different is no spin rinse and manually powering the entire process. I manhandle a full 5-gallon bucket that sits in my bathtub, and there's no great way to rinse all the soap and then the water out (save hand-wringing, but I ain't got time nor the skin and nails to mess with that). Tip it over, let the water out, dam the clothes from flooding out, refill and repeat. All steps performed by moderately laborious swooshing, dumping and refilling.

Gentle to the clothes and saves cramps in your fingers as you just have to wring out your clothing a bit after each wash and before drying. Let the wash water out and wring the clothes gently, then repeat for very dirty clothes. You will be able to see by the wash water colour when they are clean. Works perfectly for small loads, delicates. Has also been a big help for me for bulky items that dont fit into a small washing machine, like duvet blankets, sofa covers or curtains. Just make sure you have a friend around to help wring them out. Or buy a clothes wringer. At the same time you can save time and money by doing a quick load in the evening and your stuff is washed, wrung and hung in 10 minutes. Can't be beat! Arrived fast though.Nothing could be easy than using this wonderful little machine. It doesn't hold a lot of clothes, just a daily outfit, but it does a great job at getting things clean and spun out. I am so happy with this and highly recommend it to anyone. Keep in mind you will have to use it in a tub or sink because once you get cranking there is going to be some spill over.
If performed straight through, those manual cycles could be 20 mins; I normally take hours (because I'm at home--not at the laundromat--and I can). Hang slopping wet clothes out on line. If I really want to avoid the laundromat, I stand straddling the sides of the tub and wash big loads in there. No longer a pioneer but an old-timey factory worker stirring something industrial-sized. I thought I would really want an electric mini-washer. No way. I'm so glad to have saved the money and bulky object to store. But just as valuable, I really love how this washer makes me feel: old-timey, strong and self-reliant.Being screamed at and having guns pointed at me was very traumatic. There was coin laundry, but I have no vehicle and weather was getting bad in Chicago. I could move but had only been in building a short while. So, I settled on this low-tech option after reading positive reviews. Yes, it is very physical and I miss having a machine, but now I have clean laundry in the safety of my apartment. I re-purposed a Target bin and fill it in my bathtub. I am still over-estimating laundry detergent; takes very little. I don't have deeply soiled clothes but this device, which works like an agitator, does the job. I would strongly suggest that you get a Nina Spin Dryer or something similar to get the water out of your clothes or you will be left with a soggy mess. However, with the combo, I am now safe from the laundry terrorists. In addition, I am getting a great upper body workout.I gave it a test run before I going on the trip and it met expectations. It was easy to use it got the clothes acceptably clean and it didn't take long. I was skeptical at first but I was pleasantly surprised with the results.Finding time to do laundry with a 5 year old and 6 month old is impossible. Throwing a small load of laundry in a 5 gallon bucket with some soap (2 bucket method works great) at night once they're asleep is amazing.
I don't usually have the energy to go down to the laundry room once they're in bed. The hardest part is squeezing the water out. I'd like to get a spin dryer eventually, but I'm just so glad I get more play time with my kids and less time doing laundry. I'm also really impressed with how incredibly clean the clothes come out. Especially my daughters soccer uniform!Go get the other one that comes without the handle, then go to your local Lowe's and buy a Quickie Cobweb Remover. (They look like Also, the handle that comes with it is really too short to be able to do the washing without bending over. I mean, it really did suck. I started to glue it on with Gorilla glue so at least I could get some use out of it, but I'm so glad I didn't. Had I bought the cheaper version without the handle, then used the Quickie handle with it (saving the cobweb duster end for the handful of times a year I might use it), I'd have what I have now: a dependable, highly workable, color-coordinated handle and washer end that I can hang up when not in use. I can even telescope the handle if I want to, but I don't need to. The lowest setting makes for a good full-length handle that's easy to hold and wash with. Seriously, they should package that exact same handle with the Ball washer head. I'm washing all kinds of things with this washer. I didn't think it was going to work trying to wash a full-sized microfiber comforter in the bathtub with it, thinking I'd need to put it in a ten-gallon bucket for the Ball washer to do the job, but it's fine. The million-dollar question is whether it's going to fit in my SUPERB I couldn't be happier now. Oh, that million-dollar question was very easy to answer: NO. Don't even try!Combined with a small spin dryer this replaces everything. The product itself is made of sturdy material and will last me probably a life time. It's super simple to use and really doesn't take long either. It's also a bit of healthy workout.
Oh and make sure the hose is closed when filling it or you'll just look silly wondering why the water isn't getting higher. I laughed at myself a lot. You don't need to crank it fast to wash your clothes, I let them soak a few minutes then cranked a few minutes. I did that twice before draining and rinsing. After rinsing a couple good fast cranks will get them spun out fabulously. Of course you can't do big items in this but if you're spending money on doing laundry, this is going to save you. It's also going to save time, wash your clothes out quickly and easily each night and save the big things, towels, bedding, etc, for the pay machines. You can easily save yourself 2-3 loads a week. Imagine cutting your laundry down to just 1 or 2 loads instead of 5-6!Its WAY better the washing by hand cause the spinning part really dry out the clothes better the hand twist. I gave it 3 stars because desing can be better for a better spinning part and for high price.Do not waste your money. Plus the small little bearing that they put to add weights on the product are very annoying and made a mess. Lavario can be used in a bathtub, shower, with a kitchen sink or anywhere convenient to drain water.I have well water which can sometimes get very low and I like the ability to use less water and knowing my cloths are getting clean. I had emailed questions upon receiving my washer and was impressed with how quickly my questions were answered, excellent customer service. Thank you Lavario for making a great product. - Chris C, Chepachet RI I received my new portable washing machine and I love it. I had a small competitors product and was not elated. The set up was easy, just attach the handle. I use it for everything from dresses, delicates, bedding, and slides. I'm so excited from ease of use to environmental footprint. This is truly a life saver. Thank you. I love your product and it's at an affordable price. Highly recommend it! - Dawn K, Buffalo NY We love it.
The size is perfect and will fit in our tow vehicle or trailer very easily. We shall use this for extended trips with our trailer. Looks well manufactured. - D Allen, Saint Charles MO I recently purchased The Lavario Portable Clothes Washer. It worked out perfect for what I wanted it for. Yes, I have a Washer and Dryer but I could never see the point of running both for 90 minutes to clean three or six articles of clothing after going to the gym or a run. This is definitely the ideal tool for your light-type workout attire. I highly recommend this product. It works so good I purchased another unit for my daughter. Thx Lavario! - Monti S, Elgin IL more reviews. Alas, few of us are properly guided through this transition. Mine consisted of my mom throwing up her hands in frustration at the mountain of dirty clothes in my room and shouting, “From now on, you kids are doing your own laundry.” If, like me, you’ve frequently crossed your fingers after dropping the lid on a load of clothes, worry no more. Our guide to washing clothes includes all the “obvious” answers you never knew, plus some tips on the finer points of keeping your duds fresh. Should pale yellow count as a white?) Never having enough quarters on hand meant that all my clothes went into the same load, and guess what. None of them looked any worse for wear. And if you’re trying to brighten your whites with a hot water wash, do those separately to avoid shrinking other items. There are front loaders and top loaders. Most detergents are designed for one type of washer only, and believe it or not, there is a difference. Top-loader detergent produces a lot more suds—using it in a front-loader could lead to a big bubbly mess. Some liquid detergents, however, come with a dosing ball that releases the detergent at a specific moment in the wash cycle. Either way, it’s pretty easy.
Measure out the detergent according to package directions (which will tell you how much to use depending on the size of your laundry load), drop into the drawer (or dosing ball), and proceed. Give the machine a few seconds to fill with water before adding clothes, so that the detergent has a chance to distribute. What sucks is when that lesson comes at the cost of a wardrobe standby. To prevent pulling out your favorite hoodie only to find a big white splatter on it or finding your softest white tee looking like it’s been through a gunfight, it’s important to make sure you know what you’re working with. That means, first and foremost, looking at the care tags on whatever you’re washing, to see if there are any instructions about using bleach. It’s also a good idea to test a little bit of diluted bleach on the garment—you can apply a tiny dab to the underarm or inside seam, just to make sure nothing happens that you wouldn’t want to see happen to the whole garment. Be advised, however, that repeated bleaching can wear out your clothes and even cause yellowing. However, some types of fabric are best left to air-dry, especially if it’s an item where the fit is everything (like workout clothes or skinny jeans). If you invest in heritage denim, or care a lot about a perfect fit, you’re better off air-drying your jeans. If, on the other hand, your jeans are more about function than form, go ahead and toss them in the dryer. Putting your best collared shirts in with the Mexican blanket you take to the park will result in a lengthy lint-brushing session later. Lower temperatures protect colors from fading or bleeding, and prevent shrinkage (especially along the seams, where shrinking is most likely to happen). Cool water is also better for treating stains, which are more likely to set in warm water. Using cold or cool water also saves energy, which is very environmentally responsible.

The real topper, though, is the cedarwood fragrance that lingers around each freshly washed load. Not only do these balls of natural wool reduce static cling, but they also absorb moisture, reducing the energy required to get your clothes dry (another environmentally friendly bonus!). A drop or two of your favorite essential oil adds a nice, subtle fragrance to your clean laundry. In many applications, this has steered people away from servovalves and toward proportional valves. However, servovalves still have their place. For example, servovalves often work better on high-flow applications, where system pressure is available to move the spools and oppose the higher flow forces. In these types of applications, servovalves are a safer design choice and perform better because they have a faster and more linear response (and hence are easier to control). In these cases, the valves will appear to lose control momentarily until the flow forces are reduced. While troubleshooting, there may be a tendency to fault the device controlling the valve instead of the valve itself. An oscilloscope or another diagnostic tool that can record control signals, spool positions, and actuator positions is valuable in these cases. Flow from a small pilot valve is used to control the spool position of the main spool. Multiple-stage valves are more expensive and can be much slower, as there are multiple stages causing phase delay. However, large valves require more force to quickly move the main spool than what an electric solenoid can provide alone. In these cases, the pilot valve enhances performance by directing oil pressure to move the main spool quickly. With a servo-proportional valve, this amplifier uses the spool position feedback from the LVDT in the valve to correct the error between the control signal and the LVDT feedback. To accomplish this, the error between the control signal or reference and the feedback is run through an electronic servo-amplifier. Some of these amplifiers use simple proportional control, whereas others use PI or PID control. It is best to purchase proportional valves with their own onboard electronics to help ensure the amplifier is properly tuned.

All Rights Reserved. At the machine level, this often translates to the requirement for higher speed and precision from motion components in the system. The reason for focusing on cylinder size first is to ensure adequate dynamic response, in order to meet acceleration and deceleration requirements. This usually requires calculating the needed system pressure, as well. Note that servovalves and servo-quality proportional valves are generally rated at 1015 psi pressure drop, whereas other proportional valves are often rated at 145 psi pressure drop. The difference is significant — the flow at 1000 psi pressure drop is typically about 2.65 times the flow at 150 psi. Choosing the correct valve is more than sizing, however, since there are usually many functional options for each range of valve size. The main difference between them is how the spool is shifted. Proportional valves use an electric coil and magnet, like the voice coil of a typical audio speaker, to directly move the spool. Servovalves use a small torque motor to control hydraulic pressure, which in turn moves the spool (pilot-actuated). Servovalves generally respond faster than proportional valves because of the ratio of hydraulic forces to the mass of the spool, although some proportional valves approach servovalve response times. Proportional valves must supply enough force to move the spool, the inline LVDT, and the solenoid core, as well as overcome spring centering forces.
The closed-loop controller is required to change its gains on-the-fly as the valve shifts between high-and low-gain regions. In theory, this valve linearization (compensation for the varying gains as a function of the control signal) can be done within the motion controller, using a look up table or a specific formula. Notch spools can work well in machine applications where closedloop control is only required at slow speeds. Open-loop or manual control can be used at higher speeds, where the valve is in the high gain region. This way, the closed-loop controller does not need to change its gains on-the-fly as the valve shifts between high and low gain regions. However, for most position or pressure control applications, it is better to avoid notch or curvilinear spools. Different manufacturers may rate their valves at different amplitude of spool travel. This means that two valves rated at 30 Hz may actually be quite different if one is rated using a 5% control signal and the other valve is rated using a 50% control signal. Many of the performance curves show the response for a 5 or 25% sine wave. They are not useful for high speed applications, were the valve spool must travel almost 100%. A safe rule of thumb to follow is to take the rise time from 0 to 100% and multiply it by 4, then divide this time into 1 to get the frequency for full travel. Choosing the correct valve is not always easy. The lack of standardization in valve ratings makes comparing valves difficult. Some deadband may be permissible for applications that don't require the spool to shift through zero; however, the flow response should be linear throughout the rest of the range. Robert Sheaf May 01, 2020 A company that makes concrete blocks has a carousel with 10 horizontal two-piece molds that are clamped together, one at a time, by a 3-in.Concrete is then poured into the top gate to fill each mold.
Amplifier cards can be purchased separately, but this requires additional effort and knowledge of how to adjust the gains in the amplifier so the spool will respond quickly to the control signal. However, flow is not necessarily proportional. Proportional valves may have many different types of spools — and making the correct spool choice is critical for maximizing system performance. These spools provide flow proportional to the control signal, providing that pressure drop across the valve stays constant. These valves have a constant gain because the response is linear, Figure 1(a). The most common is the overlapped or closed-center spool that appears to have a deadband, or zero gain, region because the valve ports do not allow flow while the control signal is small, Figure 1(b). This may reduce leakage and make it easier to keep a system stopped while in manual control, but it also makes these valves poor choices for position or pressure control applications, because the spool must be shifted very quickly across center to provide fine pressure or position control. During these few milliseconds, there is essentially no flow response from the valve — resulting in no change in position and pressure input to the motion controller. This discontinuity in feedback reduces the ability for a motion controller to maintain precise positions or pressures. Closed-center valves should only be used on applications where the spool does not need to shift quickly across the deadband, i.e., where motion doesn't change direction rapidly or often. Speed control applications like conveyors are good examples of these applications. Notch or dual-gain valves have distinct low and high gain regions, Figure 1(c), while curvilinear valves have continuously varying gains, Figure 1(d). For manual systems, this results in fine control at slow speeds while providing a lot of flow for high speeds.
The exercises and tasks described provide basic information and procedures. The layout is uniformly structured and explains how to perform the individual exercises step by step. The content and objectives of this study topic are to familiarise the student with the use of a control valve with onboard electronics, a control unit (cylinder, displacement sensor, counterforce cylinder) and the associated setpoint generator. Through successful completion of the practical exercises, the student learns about a simple electrohydraulic position control circuit application. This provides practical hands-on training in continuous valve technology. These exercises are intended to serve as an introduction to practical control technology. This project manual is not intended as a comprehensive guide to the theoretical principles of control technology, but rather to describe the practical application of a simple electrohydraulic position control circuit. It first examines the problem of maintaining position under different loads in the open control loop. This reveals the need for, and the advantages of, a closed-loop control system. The analog controller used here is a relatively simple one that offers only the minimal functionality of a position control system. The lightweight control axes used without mass cannot represent real conditions, of course. But they are well-suited to provide students with an introduction to electrohydraulic control systems. Real electrohydraulic control systems are large, dynamic masses and machines with low natural frequency. The project exercises can be performed with simple equipment. The clamp cylinder and mold are then moved to the next position on the carousel by a hydraulic motor. The circuit provided shows the transfer motor and only one of the 10 clamp cylinders. One opens while the other closes. Once the mold that’s opening trips a position sensor, the motor turns the carousel. After a dwell time needed for the concrete to harden, that mold is opened and a block removed. The cycle then repeats unless someone trips a safety-light curtain. This happened when the carousel first started to rotate resulted in a rejected block because of the void created. Submit your solution via e-mail. For example, the electrical hydraulic control system based on the dynamic system, the negative feedback system is designed as a means. It is one dynamic system which integrated with the mechanical system, electrical system and hydraulic system. The control signal logic operation and power amplification can be realized, thus generating enough electromagnet to control the electromagnet of the electromagnetic directional valve. It can control the oil circuit breaker and switch. For each valve port, there are only two states, which are fully open and closed completely. So the electromagnetic directional valve is classified in the electromagnetic hydraulic switch valve. It is impossible to adjust the opening of the electromagnetic directional valve so as to control the speed of the moving beam. The signal is the logic control unit (0 or 1).
The control signal of each electromagnet of the electromagnetic directional valve is generated by the logic operation of the relay network and control the power supply of the corresponding electromagnet, the corresponding valve core movement. Therefore, realize the three position changes of valve core in the left, middle and right, output hydraulic control flow, drive hydraulic cylinder, and push the machine tool movement beam. The control signal is one-way flow and only flow to the forward signal channel of the controlled object. Therefore, to control valve opening gradient change, adjust the pressure drop and flow rate of the proportional hydraulic valve. And to some extent, the ratio between flow and control signals is changed. The signal is analog control (continuous electrical signal) which is amplified by a proportional amplifier to control the corresponding ratio electromagnet of the proportional solenoid valve. Therefore, push the valve core to produce the continuously adjustable displacement and generate continuous changed hydraulic pressure to control oil flow to drive oil cylinder. Then the beam movement of machine tools will be realized. But the tracking accuracy is low, the response speed is slow, and the response speed depends on the response time of the transmitting signal element. The error caused by interference cannot be compensated automatically. The electro-hydraulic servo control system can be used. It adopts electro-hydraulic servo valve as the control unit. Therefore, to generate the required hydraulic flow and pressure to drive the hydraulic cylinder movement, and push the beam movement of the machine tool. The beam motion is detected by the displacement sensor and is sent to the electronic control device. The control system is also known as closed-loop control. It can also learn from the analysis and design experience of the hydraulic transmission system. Please enable JavaScript in your browser to complete this form.
